Suburban Gardening

The trials & tribulations of a couple in South Texas
attempting a small garden to agument the table.
Without a large place to plant...in the burbs.

The Dream

We want to have the lifestyle that a hobby farm will bring.  Additionally, we want to start a pet boarding facility on the property.  We have BIG dreams in respect to both of these adventures, and know it will take a lot of hard work and determination, but in the end think the rewards will also be there.

We are looking at nothing more than 5 acres.  We are hoping to primarily go agriculture with a small flock of livestock.  Mainly the three dogs & rabbit we currently have, but add a few chickens, a few goats, and maybe a guard donkey.  We, by no stretch of the imagination, have any thoughts that this will be a profitable adventure; again it is more of a lifestyle choice, and hopefully a few bucks towards the mitigation of some expenses.

I do hope to plant some areas with fruit trees, apples, pears and peaches.  If I can get a few banana trees, I would also be very happy.  I love veggie gardening, but to be able to do it on a larger scale is really exciting to me.  I am also hoping to plant an area of fast growing bamboo.  This is more of an environment thing with me, as it has benefits of creating better air quality, as well as it is a renewable wood source for the world!!

WE LOVE OUR DOGS!!!  It breaks our hearts when we need to board them from time to time.  We came across a place in Illinois when we lived there that was GREAT!!  If you are ever in Maryville, IL please stop by Cindy’s Critter Camp.  She has a big heart, and every single dog run had inside and outside runs.  Not the normal “crates” that they are normally stuck in for hours and hours.  THAT IS OUR DREAM; to help other pet owners with the peace of mind that their loved ones are well taken care of during periods when they have to board them.

The Plan to Get There

The Multi-step plan to get there…

  • We are saving whenever possible (we all know how bad the economy is right now)
  • Continue to build value in my current house with well designed projects, my greatest asset is the house, so when it is time to sell it, it is worth it!
  • I take all of the change in the change jar every 3 months and cash it in and sock it away.
  • I use Nesteggz.com (see below) and make sure all of that is also saved specifically for this dream.
  • Please use the search on this page, and click on one of the sponsored links it produces, it earns me pennies.
  • Click on any of the Google ads on the pages, it also earns me a few pennies.
  • If you are so inclined, you can make a donation to the dream thru PayPal.  (I always hand write thank you letters)

I also believe in Karma.

Therefore I normally will take half of everything I save and use it towards “Social Lending”.  Theses are micro-loans given to people in struggling countries and are paid back over time.  Most of them I do are through Kiva.org, and are for the purposes a woman looking to support their families with small items; in fact the loan (or part of the loan) is only $25.  For Example: a woman in Ghana wanted to buy a cow, so she could produce milk to sell in the market for the money to support here family; it was 50 people kicking in $25 to help her.  The loan was repaid over the next year to all of us.  These types of loans are almost never defaulted upon, and are considered safe, but they also help to borrower!!  Karma!!  I almost never earn any type of interest, but it also makes me feel good trying to make a difference.

A way to help...Win/Win for both of us!

Has anyone heard of NESTEGGZ.COM??

I have been used them for years, and I think one of the most ingenious sites out there.  I remember them when they were a coupon company.  I would go online, print off the coupons I would use at the grocery store, and the savings went into an online savings account, where I would get a check from time to time.  But times have changed, so did the business model.

They now offer a credit card (which I do not have) but also anything I buy online, I first log into my account, click through their link, and  a commission would be deposited into my account.  The commissions range anywhere from 2% up to one I noticed for 22%.  No different in the way I shop, I just go to my account first so it can be tracked, and when the vendor pays Nesteggz, they in turn pay me.  WIN/WIN between Nesteggz & the Shopper.

Well if you are interested, they also have a WIN/WIN program for us.  It is their referral program.  They are currently, paying $5.00 to the person I refer and they open an account, as well as $5.00 to me when you shop the first time.    I take 100% of all the money I earn from them and put it towards my DREAM of a hobby farm lifestyle.

If you fill out the form below, I will log on to my Nesteggz account and send you a referral email.  I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT SHARE THE EMAIL WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN NESTEGGZ.  I also have never received any spam from Nesteggz, so you email box should not become overloaded with spam.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
